Vice-President Legal, General Counsel and Secretary
Hartland Paterson joined CAE in 2001 as Vice-President Legal, General Counsel and Secretary. He is a member of the Executive Committee of CAE, the Intellectual Property Committee and the Pension Committee. He is also a member of the committee, comprising the CEO and CFO of CAE, which reviews and approves all material transactions of the group. As part of his role, Mr. Paterson has with other CAE team members completed dozens of business divestitures and acquisitions on CAE’s behalf. He also oversaw CAE’s NYSE listing, multiple sale-leaseback financings raising hundreds of millions, credit agreements and an equity issue, as well as many of CAE’s joint venture structures.
Prior to joining CAE in 2001, Hartland served as Vice President and Associate General Counsel with Cable & Wireless in Japan and the Caribbean, worked with Nortel in Hong Kong and was formerly a partner of the law firm Ogilvy Renault.
Mr. Paterson is chairman of the board of Centaur Theatre Company.
Mr. Paterson holds an undergraduate honours degree in philosophy and political science from Queen’s University and both Common and Civil law degrees from McGill University. He was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1987.
