The CAE Loganair Graduate Pilot Programme is now open

We are delighted to announce the opening of the Loganair Graduate Pilot Programme. This programme offers our graduates an invaluable opportunity to fly on the Embraer 135 and 145 fleet with Europe’s fastest growing regional airline.


Loganair is a major regional airline, headquartered in Glasgow but with crew bases in Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Londonderry, Chester, Norwich and the Isle of Man. It serves over 60 destinations across the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the UK and Europe - including Dublin, Derry, Donegal, Esbjerg, Dusseldorf, Brussels, Bergen and Stavanger.

The airline currently operates over 1,000 flights every week with a fleet of 44 aircraft ranging from eight to 50 passenger seats – and additionally it operates Saab 340 and ATR 72 freighter aircraft. It carries around 1.4 million passengers per year on its scheduled service network.

Loganair is a codeshare partner of British Airways and Flybe and has interline agreements with Qatar, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Air France and KLM. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Airline Investments Ltd, a UK company. It has over 800 employees of which nearly 300 are pilots.

Course outline

The successful candidates will complete a 1 week induction at the Loganair HQ in Glasgow. They will then commence ground school and simulator training at CAE’s Burgess Hill, UK Training Centre. Type Training consists of 3 weeks ground school and two weeks simulator training.

On successful completion of the Type Rating Skill Test, candidates will complete Base Training, CRM and Safety Equipment Procedures training with Loganair in Glasgow prior to line training.

Entry Requirements
  • This course is open to CAE Integrated ATPL or Waypoint course graduates only
  • Must have current and valid CPL and IR or licence application sent to CAA
  • ICAO English Level 5 or 6 required
  • Good supporting CAE reports that are suitable to Loganair
  • Must be able to provide evidence of efforts to maintain proficiency within the industry since graduation.
  • If course completion was more than 12 months ago, you must give evidence that you are maintaining flight proficiency by flying regularly and going beyond the minimum renewal requirements. 
  • Must have unrestricted right to live and work anywhere in the EU.
  • Once employed you must be able to hold a valid U.K. driving licence.
  • Must be prepared to start an EMB 145 Type Rating training delivered at CAE Burgess Hill.
  • Must be prepared to be based at any of Loganair’s existing or future bases.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What extra costs do I need to budget for during my training?

Loganair will fund your travel and accommodation during all phases of training. Hotel accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis.

Q: What is the dress code for the type training?

Smart casual attire is recommended for the Type Training. Loganair will advise of attire for the SEP and Base Training during their induction process,but expect this to include casual attire for emergency egress training.

Q: Does Loganair provide a uniform?

Loganair provide your uniform free of charge.

Q: Where will I be based?

Base assignments are not finalised at this time, you should be prepared to go to any Loganair bases.

Q: Will my line training take place at my home base?

No, Line training is spread across Loganair’s route network to allow you to experience the differing route and airfield environments in which Loganair fly.

Q: What are the opportunities for promotion?

Senior First Officer positions are available once your ATPL is unfrozen. Command Upgrades are available on average between 2 and 5 years after joining the company.
