The Supporting Crewmember program CAE SimuFlite, a leading business aviation training provider located at the Dallas Forth-Worth airport in Texas, U.S., is offering a unique opportunity to aspiring aviation students through its Supporting Crewmember program.

The program trains and qualifies personnel to provide first officer support at our facility, at no cost to the student. You will be trained to fulfill the co-pilot role while one of our clients is in pilot training, and also during check rides for FAA certification and 135 operations.

The training program includes:


A three-day indoctrination focusing on the expectations and duties of the position A complete review of cockpit resource management Enrollment into a SIC curriculum for a turbojet aircraft in a full-flight simulator Certification as a CAE SimuFlite supporting crewmember (SC) Following completion of the training program, you will be required to provide supporting crewmember services to clients attending pilot training at our facility. Within a 24-month period, you will be required to provide CAE with support for 80 individual training sessions.

The type-rating program: Following completion of the 80 training sessions, you will be enrolled into a program with the goal of attaining a full type-rating in one of the following aircraft:


Citation 500 / 650 / Excel / CJ series BeechJet 400 series Learjet series Westwind Falcon 10 or 20 King Air 350 Hawker 700 CAE will provide this type-rating as an educational grant, at no cost to the student. The type-rating training will be conducted at CAE SimuFlite in Dallas, Texas. All costs for travel and lodging are the responsibility of the student.

Commercial certificate Airplane multi-engine Land instrument rating 300 hours total flight time Must reside within a two hour radius of the facility

Frequently asked questions
What does this program cost me?
CAE provides all books and training at no extra cost. However, any costs for travel and lodging are the responsibility of the student.

Is the program available at any other CAE training centre outside of Dallas?
All training and support activity currently takes place at the Dallas facility.

I currently attend school or work during the day or night. Can I still be part of the program?
Yes. The requirements of the program vary and range from days to nights and weekends.

Can I log this time in my logbook?
The FARs allows that a percentage of acquired simulator hours may be credited towards certain categories of flight time.

Will I be provided with training records and a certificate of completion?
Yes. A full set of training and service records will be kept and provided to you.

Will this program qualify me to fly as a First Officer in a turbojet aircraft?
The completion of the Supporting Crewmember program applies only to the simulator. After the completion of forty (40) events, you will b eligible to receive a recommendation for a Part 61 SIC type-rating endorsement. You would then have to acquire takeoffs and landings in the aircraft (at your own expense).

Can I take the grant money provided by CAE in lieu of the type-rating?
No, the purpose of the program is to enhance your aviation credentials.
