    Human systems integration planning
    The CAE's Integrated Enterprise Solutions group of HSI experts specializes in the development of human factors engineering and HSI plans for complex system development projects. These plans are developed using human factors tools and processes based on international HSI standards from the defence, nuclear, aviation, and marine communities.

    Critical task analysis
    To build a better system, the designer must understand the user, the work, and the environment. Critical task analyses and design reviews are conducted to generate user-validated project requirements and design inputs.

    Interface and workspace design
    Interface and workspace design are fundamental human factors activities involving the design of system interfaces, workspaces, operator stations, vehicle layouts, and vehicle maintenance access spaces. CAE's Integrated Enterprise Solutions group works with system designers to develop operator and maintainer interface style guides and detailed designs of user interfaces and associated workspaces.

    User evaluations - virtual and live
    By conducting virtual and live experiments, CAE's Integrated Enterprise Solutions group evaluates system interfaces, workspace layouts, and vehicle layouts using highly-structured user evaluation methodologies. During the development process, our team uses virtual simulation to conduct iterative experiments to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of system designs. When the final systems are completed, our team repeats those virtual experiments in live field trials to ensure the interaction between the user and the system meets expectations and requirements as defined in the virtual environment.

    Human behaviour modelling
    CAE's Integrated Enterprise Solutions group is a leader in the application of human behaviour modelling techniques to compare system performance, evaluate design alternatives for immersive and real vehicle simulations, and predict human performance and workload prior to virtual and field-based trials of real systems. Human behaviour modelling allows designers to predict system performance during development and to create realistic training scenarios without expending the associated costs of developing complex human-in-the-loop or live simulations involving multiple operators.

    Simulation-based design reviews
    Our HSI and modelling and simulation teams work together to develop visualizations of system designs in standalone or distributed synthetic environments for use in design reviews with future users to evaluate the system in the context of operational or support scenarios. Our in-house labs can be configured for simulation-based design reviews, including a fully immersive virtual environment for design review.
