CAE GESI Command & Staff Training

CAE's GESI (GEfechts-SImulation System, the German word for combat simulation system) is a constructive simulation system designed to run complex and comprehensive exercises from the company up to division level. Using the CAE GESI system, commanders and their staff conduct normal training exercises in their regular command posts using original equipment. The commanders and their staff have virtually no perceptible contact with the constructive simulation. The CAE GESI system is then used to represent the mission area, including entities such as weapons, vehicles, aircraft, ships, logistics, casualties and more. The commanders determine the course of the simulation exercise by the decisions they make. Using regular tactical maps or command and control (C2) systems, the commanders receive situation reports from subordinate commanders at the GESI workstations. The command posts in the field or in a designated training facility communicate with the subordinate commanders at the simulation system via standard radio equipment and C2 systems. In a war gaming exercise using the CAE GESI system, all humans play key decision making roles, thus making the exercise as realistic as possible.

The CAE GESI system is a high resolution simulation system, meaning that the resolution goes down to the level of single entities. Up to 32,000 entities such as weapons, vehicles, aircraft and more are available in an exercise. The CAE GESI system is currently in use in seven countries in Europe, including: Germany, Austria, Italy, Norway, Finland, Ireland, and Lithuania.
