Communications Trainer

The Command and Staff Training System (CAST), also called CAE's communications trainer, provides an emulated BOWMAN communications environment to simulate the communications plan developed by the troops involved in an exercise, the potential delays in the delivery of data messages, and the response of the communications system to external effects such as jamming and equipment malfunction. Located in their real vehicles and using real communications equipment, the troops involved in an exercise receive orders and objectives from various exercise controllers. As the combat scenario runs, the troops "perceived truth" develops based on communications that occur. The communications trainer provides troops with realistic training that includes digitized radio feeds, voice communications, and other resources used on the battlefield. CAE has supplied this trainer to the U.K. Ministry of Defence.
