Flight Training Device/Cockpit Procedures Trainer

A flight training device (FTD) or cockpit procedures trainer (CPT) are both fixed-based training devices that can be used to offload some of the training tasks from the full-mission simulator (FMS), thereby lowering costs and enabling more efficient use of the FMS.

CAE can design a flight training device to varying levels of complexity depending on the type of training requirement that needs to be met. With each increasing level of complexity, the flight training device more accurately represents the actual aircraft cockpit and flight characteristics. The cockpit procedures trainer is an ideal training device for assisting aircrews in learning the cockpit layout and the location of switches, lights, instruments, and other aircraft functions.

CAE has designed and manufactured a range of flight training devices and cockpit procedures trainers for military customers. Recent examples include a UH-72A Lakota CPT for the U.S. Army and a CP-140 CPT for the Canadian Forces.
