Integrated Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)

Building on their partnership, Volotea and CAE are recruiting cadets for the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) in Madrid.

Cadets will begin their EASA theoretical knowledge at CAE’s training centre in Madrid, followed by flight training in Phoenix, AZ, USA and Oxford, UK, before returning to Madrid to complete Airbus A320 type-rating training. Upon successful completion of their training programme, graduates will be employed by Volotea, and will have experienced pilot training following the highest industry standards in three of CAE’s global locations.

Course Outline

Phase 1: Theoretical Knowledge Training

  • Learn everything about ATPL related theory in 14 subjects
  • Classroom and computer-based training
  • Approximately 750 hours or 7-8 months
  • Location: Madrid, Spain

Phase 2: Foundation Flight Training

  • Learn how to fly solo in a single-engine piston aircraft
  • Aircraft and simulator training
  • Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT)
  • Approximately 145 hours or 5 - 6 months
  • Location: Phoenix, Arizona, USA
  • Perform your Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Skill Test

Phase 3: Advanced Flight Training

  • Learn how to fly using instruments on a multi engine piston aircraft
  • Aircraft and simulator training
  • Approximately 52 hours or 3-4 months
  • Location: Oxford, United Kingdom
  • Perform your Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR) Skill Test

Phase 4: MCC/JOC – Airbus A320 type rating

  • Learn how to fly as a member of a professional airline cockpit crew and get type rated on an Airbus A320
  • Classroom and Flight Simulator Training
  • Approximately 2 months

Eligibility Requirements

You need to meet the following criteria to apply to the Volotea First Officer Programme:

  • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age
  • Have the unrestricted right to live and work in the UK, European Economic Area (EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway) or Switzerland
  • Must have successfully completed secondary education. Engineering or Business degree is a plus.
  • Proficient in the English language (verbal and written)
  • Must be able to obtain an EASA Class 1 Medical without restrictions

Class 1 pilot medical requirement

Prior to enrolling on the Volotea First Officer Programme, you must possess a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate. This can be obtained from the Civil Aviation Authority in your relevant EU member state.

The Medical Examination Includes:

  1. Review of your medical history
  2. Hearing and vision tests
  3. Lung function and heart tests
  4. Blood and urine analysis
  5. General physical examination
