Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. How well do I need to speak English to apply?

In order to apply to the Volotea MPL Career Programme, you are required to be proficient in English, both verbally and written. Those who are not fluent in English may experience difficulties with the aptitude testing because it is conducted entirely in English.

Q. Is previous flight training experience or a PPL required?

No previous flying experience is necessary to apply.

Q. Must I already possess an EASA class 1 medical to apply?

No, but a cadet pilot must hold a valid Class 1 medical certificate by the start of training.

Q. I already have a CPL/IR or ATPL. Am I eligible to apply?

No. This programme is designed to identify students for an ab-initio training programme that must be completed in its entirety. Individuals already holding a CPL/IR or ATPL or those who have already completed any of the 14 ATPL theoretical knowledge examinations may not apply. Individuals who already have more than 200 flying hours cannot apply for this programme.

Q. How can I best prepare for the skills assessment for this programme?

CAE and Volotea have a strong preference for applicants whose natural aptitude, educational background and life experience have already prepared them for the rigors of the course, so we do not recommend extensive preparation for the assessment. For those who have been out of school for a few years, however, it would be worth revisiting mathematics and physics.

For this we recommend:

  • A full and comprehensive preparation pack has been created for you which will allow you to prepare for your assessment. In addition to this written material, we can also purchase Maths and Physics learning material which is designed to serve as a refresher course for someone who hasn’t been in education for some time. A link to this product will be shared with you upon approval of your application, and you’ve selected an assessment date.
  • Applicants should learn as much about Volotea as they can by researching the company and becoming familiar with their ethos, values, bases, fleet, timeliness record, financial performance and management structure, etc. Your research should go beyond the materials that CAE provide you ahead of your Interview.

Q. How much will it cost me to apply?

There is no fee required to submit the initial on-line application. In the event you are invited to attend for Stage 2 a fee of £125 will apply. If you are successfully selected to proceed to Stage 3 of the process, there will be an additional fee of £150.

Q. How will I be advised of my progress?

On completion of each stage of the selection process, CAE will advise all applicants by email whether they have been successful or unsuccessful. The successful group will then be advised of arrangements for the next stage.
