Welcome to CAE Catalyst – Defense & Security Podcast.
Catalyst is a word most often associated with change. In the context of CAE Defense and Security podcasts, the more relevant definition of catalyst is “A person or thing acting as a stimulus in bringing about or hastening a result”. This is our ambition.
The intent is for experts, both internal to CAE and those outside of CAE with whom we work, to discuss topics relating to CAE D&S’s areas of focus which may be of interest to you and the military community at large. Under the overarching theme of “readiness”, these podcasts are intended to address how training and technology can advance and support planning and preparation.

As global defense organizations face what many have referred to as, “the most dangerous decade” since the Second World War, the link between effective training and mission readiness has never been stronger. In this episode of CAE Catalyst, we examine some of the critical enablers powering military training transformation; innovative new tools and approaches available to military training programs seeking to produce a greater number of graduates that are trained better, faster and cheaper. We will discuss how advances in the science of learning, including biometrics, cognitive performance measures, and neuroscience are informing training system design. Our discussion will also provide a deeper understanding of how learning tools and practice integrate to deliver outcome-focused training systems tuned for efficiency, effectiveness, and affordability. Evolving global threats and environments are forcing defense and security organizations around the world to reconsider long-held beliefs about technical skills training. Tried and true instructional tools and approaches that have yielded successful outcomes in the past are no longer able to support requirements for increasing capacity, speed, and capability. This is prompting military services to investigate modern approaches to instructional design and education technology. Host: Regan Patrick, Chief Learning Officer, CAE Defense & Security Guests: Dr. Gary Eves, Principal Technology Officers, CAE Defense & Security, Australia and Maryse Carmichael, Special Advisor Aircrew Training, CAE Defense & Security, Canada Podcast tags: Training, Adaptive Learning, Modernization, Military modernization, digital innovation, defense, DoD, adaptive learning, technology, innovation, simulation.
