Turnkey “wet” training program for S-92 helicopter to be added to existing S-92 training program

The CAE Brunei Multi- Purpose Training Centre (MPTC), a joint venture of CAE and the Ministry of Finance of Brunei Darussalam, today announced that it plans to become an Approved Training Organization (ATO) according to the guidelines and procedures established by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The CAE Brunei MPTC will be adding a turnkey instructor-led (“wet”) initial and recurrent training solution for the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter later this year. The S-92 “wet” training solution will include advanced classroom and simulator training delivered by qualified CAE Brunei MPTC instructors. The CAE Brunei MPTC currently offers operator-led “dry” training on a CAE 3000 Series S-92 full-flight simulator (FFS), which was certified by EASA to Level D, the highest qualification for flight simulators, and entered service in 2014 at the CAE Brunei MPTC.

“The CAE Brunei MPTC continues to make significant progress, and becoming an Approved Training Organization is yet another milestone in the development of a world-class training facility,” said Kevin Speed, General Manager, CAE Brunei MPTC. “Being able to offer our offshore oil and gas customers flying the S-92 helicopter either wet or dry training is consistent with our commitment to supporting safe operations and crew readiness in all our training programs.”

Current customers conducting S-92 helicopter training at the CAE Brunei MPTC include Brunei Shell Petroleum, CHC Helicopter Australia, Bristow Helicopters and China Southern Airlines Zhuhai Helicopter Branch.

“Having the S-92 simulator in Brunei allows us easy access to the training facility anytime of the year without having to travel to simulator locations normally reserved for us in the United States or Europe,” said Alexirwan Omar, Head of Aircraft Services at Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd. “The quality of training is enhanced and that brings huge benefits in terms of safety in our flight operations department.”

In addition to S-92 helicopter training, the CAE Brunei MPTC offers a comprehensive training program for the Pilatus PC-7 training aircraft, including a CAE-built PC-7 flight training device. In 2016, the CAE Brunei MPTC will take delivery of a CAE 3000 Series S-70i Black Hawk helicopter simulator and begin offering a comprehensive training program for the Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk.

The CAE Brunei MPTC has also established an Emergency and Crisis Management Centre of Excellence that will provide relevant local authorities with comprehensive training designed to better plan and prepare for emergencies. Using simulation-based training, the CAE Brunei MPTC will offer emergency and crisis management training programs that will help improve coordination,

response and operational decision-making during a range of emergency scenarios. The CAE Brunei MPTC will also be offering emergency and crisis management training to the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN).
