Realistic, high-intensity virtual combat training device for helicopter aviators

CAE, following the acquisition of the former L3 Link Simulation and Training business, now offers a collective helicopter aircrew tactical training device designed to support the full mission spectrum of attack, reconnaissance, utility, and cargo helicopter operations. The U.S. Army has made extensive use of AVCATT to provide tactical training for a range of Army helicopter platforms, including the AH-64 Apache, UH-60 Black Hawk, CH-47 Chinook, UH-72 Lakota, and OH-58 Kiowa Warrior. These transportable AVCATT training devices can be networked with other Army’s Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (CATT) for full interoperability. The devices can also be used in the stand-alone mode through computer-generated forces and role player stations to produce a highly realistic tactical training environment.

The highly functional and adaptable AVCATT training system is cost-effective, collaborative, and adaptable to any combination and model of helicopter platform. The AVCATT is the latest in reconfigurable simulator technology, able to create realistic virtual battlefield environments and views. The Army’s AVCATT solution also features full mission rehearsal capabilities for land, sea, and air deployments with rapid terrain database generation, Synthetic Environment Data Representation and Interchange Specification (SEDRIS) compatibility, an after-action playback review/evaluation feature, and overall ease of use and maintenance.
