Since 1994, CAE has remained an integral partner to the Australian Defence Force (ADF), ensuring frontline flying units, pilots, aircrew, loadmasters and officers are trained to excel in critical operations. The Aerospace Simulator Integrated Support and Training (ASIST) program provides a flexible arrangement under which CAE delivers aircrew training, specialised engineering support, training development, project management, sustainment, maintenance services, and training system upgrades on five aircraft across six training locations in Australia.

The ASIST program, and the long-term partnership between the Commonwealth of Australia and CAE, provides access to a mature sustainment capability that evolves with operational needs, offers transparency in cost, and a joint understanding of training outcomes required through collaborative long-term planning of scope, scheduling, and budgets.

Training Solutions
Academic/Classroom Training

Academic learning is a critical part of pilot training and provides the necessary theoretical understanding and foundation on a range of topics, including aircraft systems, flight regulations, instrument flying, navigation, flight planning, weather and more. CAE offers classrooms designed to provide a professional environment for academic learning, as well as a range of classroom-based training aids, static ground trainers, and resources to deliver tailored training to ADF personnel.

Simulated Training

CAE’s synthetic training devices enable more live aircraft to be made available for critical operations, while providing high fidelity aircraft-equivalent simulated training environments for pilots and aircrew to gain and maintain currency in a safe and cyber secure environment. The long-term average simulator availability of over 98% has ensured the ADF have the ability to utilise CAE’s training systems at the level and frequency they require.

Live Flight Training

Since 2006, CAE has provided Qualified Flight Instructors to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) to conduct live flight training and assessment as part of C-130J training operations at RAAF Base Richmond. This effectively expands the RAAF instructor workforce and assists in the increase and maintenance of student throughput. Under the guidance of experienced CAE instructors, students receive high quality training in both ground-based, simulated, and live flying environments. The live flight training is integrated to provide a comprehensive approach to pilot development that aligns with the demands and requirements of the Royal Australian Air Force to ensure training outcomes are continuously met.
