• CAE Healthcare released a video featuring interviews with leaders from prominent simulation centers on how simulation training enhances patient safety

CAE Healthcare will commemorate the first annual World Health Organization (WHO) Patient Safety Day on September 17, 2019 with a joint event with the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) and a video highlighting the link between simulation-based training and patient safety. The WHO Patient Safety Day falls during international Healthcare Simulation Week (September 16-20), which is hosted annually by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

“Simulation is a key patient safety strategy that hospitals can implement to improve teamwork, communication and patient outcomes,” said Rekha Ranganathan, president of CAE Healthcare. “With simulation, we can continue to make a positive impact on clinicians and patients.”

The livestream of “To Err is Human”, a documentary which features the story the Sheridan family who was impacted by preventable medical errors and calls for systemic change in healthcare, will begin at 3 p.m. Immediately following the film at 4:45 p.m., Tom Blackwell, senior reporter at the National Post will moderate an interactive panel discussion with live audience and viewer questions.

The panel will feature:

Sandi Kossey, Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships and Priorities, CPSI
Leslee Thomson, President and CEO, Health Standard Organization and Accreditation Canada
Robert Amyot, Strategic Advisor, CAE Healthcare
Allison Kooijman, Co-Chair of Patients, Patient Safety Canada

CAE Healthcare’s mission is to improve patient safety and outcomes. The company has achieved a number of “firsts” in simulation technology, such as the first augmented reality applications for Microsoft HoloLens with interactive, modeled human physiology.

“CAE Healthcare is committed to improving patient safety and providing training environments that will help reduce medical errors, and medical simulation will have an important role to play in this vision,” said Rekha Ranganathan. “We look forward to providing the training platforms and services of choice to make healthcare safer.”
