The CAE Dothan Training Center (DTC) is a 79,000 square-foot training facility providing live, virtual, and constructive training to the U.S. Army (USA), U.S. Air Force (USAF), U.S. Navy (USN) and other customers. DTC’s location is at the Dothan Regional Airport in Dothan, Alabama, and is home to the USA Fixed-Wing Flight Training Service and the USAF Rotary Wing, Introductory Flight Training (IFT-R). CAE, with a team of industry partners, use the DTC to provide the Department of Defense with comprehensive initial and recurrent training for more than 800 USA, USAF, and USN pilots annually.
The primary customers at the CAE DTC are the USA and the USAF. Under the Army Fixed-Wing Flight Training program, CAE provides all required training for USA rotary-wing aviators transitioning to fly the Army’s fleet of more than 350 fixed-wing aircraft.
The Fixed-Wing Flight Training Service program serves as the Initial Qualification and Recurrent Training unit for the USA and USAF C-12 Huron and other variants of the King Air aircraft such as the RC-12. The USN and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) train UC-12 aircrews at the CAE DTC. Five and three-day C-12 (King Air 200) recurrent and refresher training courses are available at CAE DTC.
Established in 2023, the USAF Introductory Flight Training – Rotary-Wing (IFT-R) program supports the Airman Development Command providing critical flight training to USAF student pilots as part of the Undergraduate Helicopter Training program. IFT-R is the initial entry point for USAF military Rotary-Wing pilots and provides air, ground, and simulation training for up to 100 students annually in the Bell-505 Jet Ranger X training aircraft.
CAE has successfully established a comprehensive Phase 1 and 2 flight training course similar to the USAF’s IFT and T-6 training. CAE has successfully conducted and completed Phase 1 and Phase 2 training for the Irish Air Corps, the Kuwaiti Air Force and Swedish Air Force.
Established in 2024, the U.S. Army’s High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System (HADES) Program provides graduate training for the U.S. Army’s C-12 pilots transitioning to the new Global 6500 platform.

The Dothan Training Center houses state-of-the-art classrooms as well as an impressive suite of synthetic training equipment.
Academic/Classroom Training
CAE's Dothan Training Center's state-of-art classrooms provide a professional environment for academic learning. Academic learning is a critical part of pilot training and provides the necessary theoretical understanding and foundation on a range of topics. Courses include:
Procedural and Familiarization Training
CAE's Dothan Training Center houses an impressive suite of synthetic training equipment that provides a safe and cost-effective environment for pilot training. A range of desktop trainers, CAE Simfinity integrated procedures trainers and flight training devices (FTDs) help provide the required procedural and familiarization training required by fixed-wing aviators.
Full-Flight Simulators
At the high-end of flight simulation equipment, the DTC has four CAE 7000XR Series C-12 Huron full-flight simulators (FFSs) and a CAE 7000XR Series Global 6000/6500 full-flight simulator (FFS).
CAE equipped two of these simulators with a patented roll-on/ roll-off cockpit design representing different C-12 aircraft configurations. When two of the installed cockpits are on the full-flight simulator mothership, instructors can utilize the other two docking stations as Level 6-equivalent flight training devices. Additionally, CAE has a level-5 equivalent Bell-505 FTD used for advanced rotary-wing flight training. The CAE-built full-flight simulators at the DTC are Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Level D-equivalent – the highest qualification for flight simulators. The CAE DTC also includes two Grob G120TP flight training devices that are FAA Level 6-equivalent FTDs.
The Global 6000/6500 FFS is Level D certified and is part of the FAA Part 142 qualified Training Center.
Live Flight Training
The comprehensive Flight Training program at DTC features Live Flight Training provided by CAE and its team of subcontractors. CAE is using six (6) company-owned Grob G120TP aircraft for a variety of Live Flight Training in support of the courses offered at the DTC. In addition, CAE instructors operate a fleet of ten (10) C-12U Huron aircraft owned and maintained by the USA to deliver Live Flight Training. CAE owns and operates a fleet of specially configured Bell-505 Jet Ranger X training aircraft to execute USAF IFT-R training. In partnership with Bell aircraft, CAE modified the Bell-505 to provide additional safety enhancements to optimize the Bell-505 training aircraft for initial rotary-wing flight training.
