"Working at CAE has helped me learn that as a woman in engineering, I have a unique perspective that can help push the team forward. When I started at CAE out of college, I had less confidence to share my ideas with my team of all men. But I’ve since learned that when I share my design ideas with my Mission Generation System and Instructor Operator System team, I am always met with encouragement, and I’ve helped fix bugs and come up with new features," Mariah Galli, CAE USA software engineer, said.

When reflecting on her role, Mariah said, "Having my ideas come to fruition and seeing the end user enjoy features I’ve created has given me more confidence and motivation to keep going, and I’ve learned that my thoughts are valuable."

I worked on large codebases and had the freedom to implement the feature I was working on in the way I thought was best. Greg Katchis joined our CAE Binghamton team this summer as a Software Engineer Intern. When reflecting on his summer, Greg told us that one of the highlights of working at CAE was the collaborative atmosphere and having the opportunity to work closely with other interns and gain invaluable hands-on experience. The internship program offered a deep dive into software development, while benefiting from the guidance and support of the surrounding team.

“The most enjoyable aspect of my internship has been the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced software engineers. Additionally, having the freedom to develop my own project has been invaluable.” Sean Lewis, Binghamton University, CAE Software Engineer Intern.

This summer Sean Lewis joined CAE Binghamton’s software engineering team as an intern developing and integrating systems for aeronautical simulation and implementing a framework to display vast amounts of weather data efficiently and intuitively.

When reflecting on his internship, Sean said, “CAE has given me real-life software exposure that goes beyond what any college can offer. I truly believe that the experience I have garnered in a few months at CAE surpasses my years of schooling”

“This is my first career post-military, and CAE has been an outstanding company to work for. I have gained so many skills in just a year working here and can see how this is setting me up for growth within the company,” says Daniel Dioguardi, CAE Group Leader / Systems Test Director.

Coordinating with Project Engineers and leading a section of Test Engineers comes with its own set of responsibilities. On any given day, you will find Daniel Dioguardi ensuring that his team has all the necessary resources to support CAE’s software engineers effectively and keeping CAE’s trainers well-maintained. A role that is crucial to guaranteeing the seamless flow of information within the team and ensuring that the products CAE delivers meet the highest quality standards so our customers can succeed to their fullest.

Employee well-being and creating a positive work environment are central to CAE’s culture. CAE is committed to employee growth and providing a supportive environment that helps transitioning service members and positions them for success within the organization. "I’ve been able to gain a lot of self-confidence from working here. I was able to apply my personal experiences and expertise to provide something new and the more senior engineers gave me the space and support I needed to be able to really come into my own," says Kimberly Michael, CAE Software Engineer.

Meet Kimberly Michael, a Software Engineer at CAE. Normally with some classical piano playing in the background, Kimberly's days are a blend of prioritizing tasks, unraveling the secrets of code, and immersing herself in the world of 3D training environments. Kimberly thrives on the unique challenges her role presents, and what sets CAE apart for her is the continuous learning, the opportunities to dive into research, work with courseware and simulation developers, and the hands-on experience in the Lab, where, as she tells us, “She gets to kick the tires on her changes.”

For Kimberly, CAE offers unique challenges and opportunities for engineers. The focus on training provides valuable insights into human-computer interfaces, interfacing with existing systems fosters a different way of thinking and working on seemingly restrictive systems cultivates a peculiar creativity.

Beyond the technical aspects of her work, what stands out most to Kimberly is the safety she feels at CAE and that she has been able to gain a lot of self-confidence. As a woman, an LGBT person, and a young professional, she experiences respect, encouragement, and a sense of security that extends to her career. The job stability she enjoys is a significant contrast to some other industries, and Kimberly recognizes the importance of such security, especially for women in STEM.

As we take a glimpse into the world of Virtual Reality Maintenance Training at CAE we meet up with William ‘Skip’ Ford, a seasoned Lead Software Engineer who joined the company 16 months ago. Skip's journey at CAE revolves around leading a dynamic team of engineers who develop data and code for CAE’s Virtual Reality Maintenance Training Systems. What sets his role apart is not just the technical intricacies, but the joy he finds in mentoring and sharing knowledge with his team. In a typical day, Skip seamlessly blends project management and technical problem-solving. From assigning tasks and monitoring progress to delving into software development and making architectural decisions, his role is rewarding. What Skip enjoys most about his job lies in delivering the final product to customers and hearing about the tangible improvements it brings to training maintainers.

Soon after Skip joined CAE, he had the opportunity for early customer interaction which added an unexpected yet valuable dimension to his experience. Skip told us, “It was exciting to install the product at the customers’ facility, and meet the end user, which is something I had not experienced in two decades of working embedded software”. What makes CAE stand out for Skip is the intimate work environment, coupled with proximity to the customer. This dynamic creates a sense of purpose, making him feel that his contributions genuinely matter.
