Charting your career path from Co-Op to full-time employee

CAE is proud to offer a comprehensive co-op/internship opportunity for college students to obtain hands-on experience in their field of study, which can serve as a steppingstone to securing a full-time position.

Meet Dylan Istre, a West Virginia University (WVU) graduate, who received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Finance in May 2023. During his time at WVU, Dylan secured a Financial Planning & Analysis Co-Op position with CAE, where he was able to expand his expertise and knowledge. Upon graduating, Dylan moved to Tampa, Florida where he began working for CAE full-time as a Financial Analyst.

In his position at CAE, Dylan is surrounded by top performers who push him daily to strive even higher. As Dylan tells us, “It’s had a huge influence on my growth. In my position, I have a lot of autonomy and impact. I’m working with Program Managers and collaborating with teams, who have given me a ton of freedom to make a lot of big decisions.”

Dylan was in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years while in school and was deployed overseas for one year during that time. “Our country and military are very important to me. Even though I am out of the Army, I am able to use my knowledge and expertise to support the Warfighter,” says Dylan.

Supporting CAE’s mission today, Dylan’s advice to someone considering a career at CAE is to be passionate and to find your purpose in the work you do.

Focusing on being purposeful and intentional provided Dylan the opportunity to conduct the first-ever baseline presentation to multiple CAE leaders including Vice President, Nick Coucoules. Although still learning the job at the time, this memorable moment stood out for Dylan and gave him a great sense of accomplishment.

Knowing the significance CAE’s teams place on career development and mentorship as new employees enter our workforce, Nick Coucoules shared his thoughts on Dylan’s overall work performance, “Dylan has been an asset to our team as he brings enthusiasm, professionalism, and a burning desire to learn and succeed. I look forward to witnessing the progress and growth in his bright career.”

"I’ve been able to gain a lot of self-confidence from working here. I was able to apply my personal experiences and expertise to provide something new and the more senior engineers gave me the space and support I needed to be able to really come into my own," says Kimberly Michael, CAE Software Engineer.

Meet Kimberly Michael, a Software Engineer at CAE. Normally with some classical piano playing in the background, Kimberly's days are a blend of prioritizing tasks, unraveling the secrets of code, and immersing herself in the world of 3D training environments. Kimberly thrives on the unique challenges her role presents, and what sets CAE apart for her is the continuous learning, the opportunities to dive into research, work with courseware and simulation developers, and the hands-on experience in the Lab, where, as she tells us, “She gets to kick the tires on her changes.”

For Kimberly, CAE offers unique challenges and opportunities for engineers. The focus on training provides valuable insights into human-computer interfaces, interfacing with existing systems fosters a different way of thinking and working on seemingly restrictive systems cultivates a peculiar creativity.

Beyond the technical aspects of her work, what stands out most to Kimberly is the safety she feels at CAE and that she has been able to gain a lot of self-confidence. As a woman, an LGBT person, and a young professional, she experiences respect, encouragement, and a sense of security that extends to her career. The job stability she enjoys is a significant contrast to some other industries, and Kimberly recognizes the importance of such security, especially for women in STEM.

Kimberly Muldrow is CAE’s C-130H Program Manager at Little Rock AFB. Working on a military base, Kimberly strives to blend CAE’s corporate spirit, bringing cultures together and contributing to a dynamic and enriching work environment.

Her work supporting the management of U.S. Air Force pilot training, and the connection with her U.S. Air Force counterparts infuses purpose into her job, making it incredibly fulfilling.

One of the most memorable moments in Kimberly’s CAE journey has been her transition from a Scheduler to a Site Manager, breaking gender barriers, as previously a woman had never been assigned to site manager. Then two years later, Kimberly became Program Manager. She was the third woman to hold this role and the second who wasn’t a veteran. “CAE’s investment in my growth, mentorship, and belief in my capabilities propelled me to become a Program Manager —a journey that began three years ago.” Kimberly continues.

Beginning her career with CAE in 2019 and through CAE’s development program, Kimberly holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Education (Med) and a Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification which has been a game-changer for her professional growth. “I’m thankful for the autonomy and trust CAE has given me. The company's emphasis on identifying and nurturing employee potential has been pivotal in my journey.” Kimberly said.
