TRAINING CENTERS

The CAE Arlington Training Center, based in the middle of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex, is a state-of-the-art facility where world-class training is being delivered to our defense customers.  We have a variety of training systems for rotary-wing and remotely piloted aircraft platforms.   We currently offer academic and simulator training for the UH-60 Black Hawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopters, as well as training for the MQ1/9 Predator/Reaper remotely piloted aircraft. We provide initial flight training, recurrency training courses, and mission training. The Arlington Training Center offers innovative, digitally immersive training and simulation systems, combined with a well-designed infrastructure, creating an ideal learning environment for our defense customers.

CAE owns and operates a comprehensive training center in Tampa, Florida for operators of the Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules aircraft (also called the C-130/L-382 as a commercial variant). CAE's C-130 Tampa Training Center offers bilingual (English/Spanish) aircrew and maintenance courses in 16 multimedia classrooms, which includes two purpose-built maintenance training classrooms.

The CAE Brunei Multi-Purpose Training Centre situated in Brunei Darussalam is a joint venture between CAE and the Government of Brunei. The centre has been operational since 2014 and is now recognized as a world-class training facility, staffed and operated by Bruneians.  It is one of the region's largest helicopter simulator training facilities offering turnkey training solutions for the Lockheed Martin/Sikorsky S-92 and S-70i Black Hawk helicopters. The CAE Brunei MPTC has also established an Emergency Management and Crisis Management Centre of Excellence that provides relevant local authorities such as Brunei’s Ministry of Home Affairs and National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) with comprehensive training designed to better plan and prepare for emergencies. CAE is now offering instructor-led virtual emergency management training to allow learners to attend courses in the comfort of their home, or wherever they may be located. The CAE Dothan Training Center is a 79,000 square-foot training facility providing live, virtual, and constructive training to the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and other customers. The Training Center is located at the Dothan Regional Airport in Dothan, Alabama and is home to the U.S. Army Fixed-Wing Flight Training Service and the U.S. Air Force Rotary-Wing, Introductory Flight Training (IFT-R). The CAE Sale Military Training Centre, located in Sale, Victoria, opened in February 2014. The training centre facility was constructed by CAE following a contract award from Australia’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group to deliver King Air 350 Pro Line II simulator services. CAE is providing training through a company-owned/company-operated (COCO) simulator services contract and is responsible for all operational aspects, facility maintenance and support through to 2018. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and CAE established a joint venture company in India called the Helicopter Academy to Train by Simulation of Flying (HATSOFF). In 2010, HATSOFF began operations at a new helicopter training centre in Bengaluru, India. The HATSOFF training centre includes a CAE-built full-mission helicopter simulator that features CAE's revolutionary roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) cockpit design, which enables cockpits representing various helicopter types to be used in the simulator. The first training program offered at HATSOFF was for operators of the Bell 412 helicopter. This was followed in early 2011 by the civil/conventional variant of the HAL-built Dhruv helicopter.  In 2012, training was added for the Airbus Helicopters Dauphin. The Bell 412, the Airbus Helicopters Dauphin and civil/conventional variant of the Dhruv have all been certified to Level D, the highest qualification for flight simulators, by India's Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA).

In late 2004, Germany's government signed a private finance initiative (PFI) contract with an industry consortium to provide comprehensive NH90 helicopter training services. The industry consortium includes CAE, Thales, Airbus Helicopters, and Rheinmetall Defence Electronics, who each own 25 percent of an operating company called Helicopter Flight Training Services (HFTS) GmbH. HFTS is delivering NH90 training services to the German Armed Forces through 2022 as well as to other customers on a contract basis. Training is offered through three training centres located in Bueckeburg, Fassberg and Holzdorf where a total of four NH90 full-mission simulators are housed.

Located at the Bremen Airport, Initial Flight Training Deutschland is the gateway of aviation for military pilot training in Germany. CAE GmbH has overall responsibility for the ab initio flight training program providing academic, simulator and live-flying training to more than 40 students annually. A fleet of Diamond DA-40 and CAE-owned DA-42 aircraft are used to fulfill single and multi-engine live-flying training requirements at both the CAE Bremen Training Centre as well as at the CAE training site in Montpellier, France operated by industry partner Airways Aviation. At IFTD, CAE GmbH leverages the established approved training organization (ATO) curriculum as well as onsite CAE instructors.

The Italian Air Force’s world-renowned excellence in flight training combined with Leonardo and CAE’s leadership in delivering proven integrated training solutions, resulted in the creation of the International Flight Training School (IFTS) in Italy. Leonardo and CAE partnered to deliver comprehensive, lead-in fighter training to the Italian Air Force and trainees from other allied nations.  Located in a brand-new 35,000 square meter campus at the Decimomannu Air Base (Sardinia), the IFTS is the international benchmark for advanced pilot training. The IFTS provides a comprehensive Phase IV Advanced / Lead-in Fighter Training (LIFT) program based on the Italian Air Force syllabus, leveraging the capabilities of the M-346 Integrated Training System including a state-of-the-art Ground Based Training System (GBTS) jointly developed by CAE and Leonardo to train future fighter pilots who are not only required to be proficient pilots, but also need to manage the entire weapon system in scenarios which are becoming increasingly more complex. The IFTS offers customized teaching modules, compliant with the syllabus of partner air forces, including its basic training, to support the student pilot in achieving the desired proficiency and output standard, further enabling the download of training from the Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) to save time and valuable resources, while delivering better-prepared pilots.   The Italian Air Force conducts its lead-in fighter training at the IFTS and third-party customers are invited to sign a government-to-government agreement with Italy to send students to the IFTS. 

The Medium Support Helicopter Aircrew Training Facility (MSHATF) was developed by CAE in consultation with the U.K. Ministry of Defence (MoD).  CAE is responsible for the delivery of turnkey training services in addition to the design, construction and financing of the facility that opened in 1999, CAE operates the MSHATF under a 40-year private finance initiative (PFI) contract. The MSHATF delivers the total spectrum of individual, team and collective synthetic aircrew training required by the Royal Air Force (RAF) Support Helicopter Force for the CH-47 Chinook and Puma platforms. Under the terms of its PFI contract, CAE also has the ability to provide training to third-party AW101 Merlin and CH-47 users. This enables approved military and civil operators, around the world, to take advantage of the advanced simulation-based training and mission rehearsal capability at the MSHATF on a highly cost-effective basis.

Since October 2015, CAE has been the prime contractor responsible for the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program that produces qualified military pilots for defence customers. The NFTC program significantly enhances CAE's core capabilities as a global training systems integrator (TSI), and expands its offering into support for live flying training of future military pilots, including next-generation fighter pilots, for the Royal Canadian Air Force and its allies.   The NFTC program located at 15 Wing Moose Jaw and 4 Wing Cold Lake is owned by the government of Canada and operated in cooperation with CAE. The program combines basic, advanced, and lead-in fighter training as part of the comprehensive pilot training program.   CAE operates the NFTC base facilities, delivers the ground-school classroom, computer-based and simulator training, and provides support services for the live flying training that comprises this world-class, turnkey training program. CAE has an experienced and dedicated workforce that delivers training services and in-service support as part of the NFTC program.  CAE's expertise and competencies include: Courseware development Ground-based academic training Site management Simulator training Live flying training Flight operations support Program management The NFTC program has been in operation since 2000 and includes more than 200 CAE employees supporting the program, which utilizes more than 700,000 square kilometres of air space at 15 Wing Moose Jaw and 4 Wing Cold Lake.  In addition to classroom, computer-based, and simulator training, the NFTC program delivers live flying training on a fleet of Beechcraft T-6 (CT-156 Harvard) trainer aircraft and BAE Systems Hawk (CT-155 Hawk) lead-in fighter trainer aircraft. CAE is also responsible for full maintenance and operation of the aircraft under the governance of Canada's Department of National Defence airworthiness program.  In addition to the Royal Canadian Air Force, other NATO partners and allies have sent students and instructor pilots through the NFTC program, including Denmark, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Italy and Hungary.

Rotorsim was established in 2003 as a joint venture between Leonardo Helicopters (formerly AgustaWestland) and CAE to provide synthetic training solutions for AW109 Power and AW139 helicopter operators.  Since then, Rotorsim has expanded to include AW109 LUH (Light Utility Helicopter), AW109N (Nexus), AW189, AW169 and NH90 training.  The Rotorsim training centre in Sesto Calende, Italy is located within the A. Marchetti Training Academy. At the core of the facility there are full-mission and full-flight simulators, certified by the world civil aviation regulatory authorities such as the FAA in the USA and EASA in Europe at the highest current international FFS standard (Level D) (one hour of simulator training equals one hour helicopter flight). Some of Rotorsim’s simulators feature CAE’s roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) concept. This allows different cockpit modules to be hosted in the same mothership depending on the training needs. Rotorsim also offers training in the USA on a CAE-built AW139 full-flight simulator located at CAE’s North East Training Centre  near New York City. CAE New York City Training Centre (Morristown) Located in Morristown, New Jersey, the North East Training Centre opened its doors in January 2007 and offers pilot, technical and flight crew training to business aircraft operators. It is the first centre to deliver entitlement training for the new Dassault Falcon 7X program. To meet increased demand, the center recently expanded from the original six simulator bays to fifteen. As many as 3,500 pilots a year are expected to be trained here. The Morris County area is home to a large number of quality hotels, outstanding restaurants and other attractions. Morristown Airport is also a centre for corporate aircraft. The facility is an illustration of CAE’s commitment to provide high quality, customized training in locations most convenient to our customers.

CAE, following the acquisition of the former Doss Aviation business, is now operating and delivering the U.S. Air Force Initial Flight Training (IFT) program.  The IFT program provides introductory flight training for all U.S. Air Force aviation candidates.  Known as the “Gateway to Air Force Aviation”, our state-of-the-art training facility in Pueblo, Colorado, supports Headquarters Air Education and Training Command (HQ AETC) with initial flight training for every U.S. Air Force aviation candidate. This means that all future U.S. Air Force pilots and remotely piloted aircraft operators start their aviation careers and receive flight instruction as part of the IFT program now managed by CAE Pueblo Training Center.

The United Arab Emirates Naval Doctrine and Combat Training Centre (NDCTC) will be owned and operated by the UAE Navy. CAE is leading the design and development of the comprehensive training centre, and upon completion will support the UAE Navy with training centre operations. The UAE NDCTC will be located in Taweelah with future plans to be networked throughout distributed sites in the UAE, including naval vessels at sea and shore. The purpose-built NDCTC facility will feature a range of integrated ship simulation-based training suites, as well as maritime aircraft sensor stations and will enable individual, team, whole-ship and collective/joint mission training.
