CAE AT IT²EC 2023

As the world’s leading pure play, platform agnostic simulation, training and operational support company, CAE leverages vast capabilities and expertise to provide our customers advanced solutions in support of digital transformation and mission readiness. At IT²EC 2023, we will demonstrate how we are leveraging digital technologies to enhance the safety, efficiency and mission readiness of our customers who operate in complex high-stakes, and largely regulated environments.

MISSION & OPERATIONS SUPPORT (M&OS)

CAE’s operational support solutions leverage new technologies in a modular, open source digital ecosystem. CAE’s systems and solutions support multi-domain mission readiness – across air, land, maritime, space and cyber domains.

CAE VISTA – Virtual ISR Training Application

CAE Virtual Intelligence Surveillance & Reconnaissance Training Application (VISTA) provides real-time dynamic feeds from virtual C4ISR assets and fed directly to intelligence screeners and C2 terminals. Controlled in real-time, VISTA can provide C4ISR professionals a dedicated, highly affordable, stand-alone access to train, conduct mission rehearsal, or assess their operational plans on any mission set from initial preparation of the operational environment (IPOE) to real-time interdiction support high value individual (HVI) targeting and strike, and all-domain near-peer targeting.

Cloud-ready, VISTA is compliant with the USAF’s Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) standards and can link multiple US and coalition partners for small- or large-scale mission training and exercises. Its containerized architecture allows it to be installed as part of any centralized or local cloud system to scale support across any JADC2 enterprise. VISTA is a key enabler for a true, common virtual training environment for the joint force.

CAE Joint Terminal Control Training Rehearsal System (JTC-TRS)

The JTC TRS is a mission critical simulation system used to train new Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) to provide close air support by controlling aircraft weapons delivery on enemy forces. It is a fully immersive system enabling JTACs to train for complex missions in a simulated and controlled environment. The JTC TRS training system offers three configurations for JTAC training: a 270-degree field of view projected dome, a desktop configuration with flat screens, and a deployable configuration with a small footprint for individual training. Our dome and desktop configurations are Distributed Mission Operations Network (DMON) capable and provide pilot and instructor stations as well as emulated military equipment to enhance the training environment. Additionally, JTC TRS system includes the Joint Theater Air-Ground Simulation System (JTAGSS), which provides a live-virtual-construction and DMON enabled training environment for Air Support Operations Center personnel to coordinate air delivered fires on the battlefield.

CAE Decision Support Capability

At IT²EC 2023 CAE will demonstrate its decision support capability. The ability to visualize terrain models and complex scenarios for planning and wargaming is a capability CAE provides via its Augmented Reality (AR) “Sand Table”. Modelling terrain relief and ingress and egress routes in 3D, multiple users view the simulation concurrently. Viewers at the same location use holographic headsets to see the map in a spatially correlated position, can point to objects and use gestures to direct complex maneuvers. In a distributed setup, remote users interface via telepresence over an existing secure network.

Connected to a simulation or operational system to follow actions in real time, or used for brief or debriefing, CAE’s Augmented Reality Sand Table is a powerful tool for planning, assessment, evaluation, and decision support.

Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS)

CAE USA is the prime contractor on the Air Force's Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) program, which is designed to provide the Air Force an Enterprise Solution that implements use of a common, cyber-resilient infrastructure specifically designed to support the Joint Synthetic Environment and Distributed Mission Operations training across all Air Force Major Weapons Systems.

CAE USA is leading the development of the SCARS enterprise which includes common architectural design standards, common computational technology applications, and a user development toolkit to support implementation and use of common technology applications to rapidly increase warfighter readiness. SCARS will provide the warfighter with an inter-connected, cyber-resilient, multi-level security synthetic environment supported using common, best-of-breed synthetic applications for all Air Force legacy, 5th Generation, and 6th Generation synthetic mission training. The SCARS Enterprise includes 2,400+ USAF simulators across 300 locations.

ACADEMIC, SIMULATOR AND LIVE-FLIGHT TRAINING

CAE is investing in its high-technology vision for the future and is focusing on next generation pilot training.

CAE Trax Academy
Biometrics

CAE is leveraging digital technologies and big data for student-centric adaptive learning of training tasks, procedure, maneuvers, and missions. CAE Sprint Virtual Reality (VR) trainer with CAE’s patented Adaptive Learning Environment (ALE) provides real time scoring across performance and biometrics, accelerates learning and reduces instructor workload. Training efficiencies are improved through systematic and objective rule-based measures of performance and effectiveness. The ALE performance monitoring and assessment provides instructors and students with real-time feedback, allowing for immediate coaching through a mix of instructor and automated cueing.

CAE Bremen Training Centre

Located at the Bremen Airport, Initial Flight Training Deutschland is the gateway of aviation for military pilot training in Germany. CAE GmbH has overall responsibility for the ab initio flight training program providing academic, simulator and live-flying training to more than 40 students annually. A fleet of Diamond DA-40 and CAE-owned DA-42 aircraft are used to fulfil single and multi-engine live-flying training requirements at both the CAE Bremen Training Centre as well as at the CAE training site in Montpellier, France operated by industry partner Airways Aviation. At IFTD, CAE GmbH leverages the established approved training organization (ATO) curriculum as well as onsite CAE instructors.

CAE Dothan Training Center (DTC)

The CAE Dothan Training Center, which officially opened in March 2017, is a 79,000 square-foot training facility designed to provide comprehensive fixed-wing flight training to the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and other customers.

Located at the Dothan Regional Airport in Dothan, Alabama, CAE and its team of industry partners use CAE’s Dothan Training Center and the adjacent Dothan Regional Airport to deliver live, virtual and constructive training.

The primary customer at CAE’s Dothan Training Center is the U.S. Army. Under the U.S. Army Fixed-Wing Flight Service program, CAE supports initial and recurrent training for transitioning Army rotary-wing aviators and Army initial-entry fixed-wing students. The program features academic, simulation and aircraft flight training, including the CAE Trax Academy which augments the current ground-based training assets with self-paced virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) training in both the C-12 and Grob G-120TP. CAE also provides Grob G-120 TP flight training devices and a suite of desktop trainers and courseware in addition to a fleet of C-12U King Air aircraft owned and maintained by the U.S. Army and operated by CAE instructors to deliver C-12 King Air aircraft flight training.
